From: Felipe A. (felipenws{at}yahoo.com)
Date: Fri Oct 29 2004 - 06:34:01 EDT

Heavy rains from two strong pacific storms that affected southern California and northern Baja California from October, 18th, produce incredible records amounts for many sites and cities across the region.

Since I have keeping weather data (1997 to the present) in my home in Otay (north part of Tijuana), this October 2004, is the wettest october on record: 5.66" ( and it represents a little more than 50% of the total mean anual rainfall in TJ.).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The other big story is that late this morning (about 11am) of October 28th. a cell of very heavy rain in a direction from the NW to the SE over the city of Tijuana, developed a very small and rare cyclonic rotation of a base of a cumulonimbus cloud in a south-central sector: La Mesa.

It began like a funnel cloud above in a slope of a hilltop near of a residential area, and move north and touch down to a Lázaro Cárdenas boulevar (from South to North) and it damage some power lines, windows, trees fall down, one spectacular billboard, and destruct ceilings from houses and businesses.

It only lasted less than 4 minutes but move a in erratic path of a little less than 1kilometer, the witnesses said that the dimension of the "twister" was about aprox. 30 meters in diameter.

Note: At this date, It was never confirm that "twister or mini-tornado" by a meteorologist expert or any official weather service (like the NWS of México).

The local newspaper Frontera: www.frontera.info/edicionenlinea/notas/noticias/20041028/59459.asp
 quoted:

"Tornado" whips the intersection of "5 y 10"

"An eddy similar to a tornado caused damages to commerce and schools to its pass by a section of approximately 400 meters, in the "5 and 10" cruise, of La Mesa." ... (and there is more info.)
