"MELBOURNE'S transport network was thrown into chaos yesterday as heavy
rain and strong wind buffeted the city.
The wintry weather caused train cancellations, tram delays and traffic
snarls across the city and suburbs. The State Emergency Service received
more than 1100 calls yesterday, with Melbourne's eastern suburbs worst hit.
Melbourne's public transport system was left crippled yesterday morning as
a result of heavy rain and gale-force wind overnight.
Fallen tree branches on tracks and overhead wires caused delays of up to 20
minutes on some train lines. "
