Typhoon Tokage is a large storm located over the northern
Philippine Sea early Sunday afternoon, EDT, and is about 420 miles
south-southeast of Naha, Okinawa, Japan. Tokage has sustained winds of
about 130 mph, with higher gusts. It was moving toward the
west-northwest at about 12 mph. It will affect the southern Ryukyu
Island chain early this week, then perhaps bring very heavy rain and
strong winds to portions of Japan at midweek.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Nock-Ten is located about 575 miles east
of Guam in the western Pacific Ocean. It is heading toward the west at
8 mph and has sustained winds of about 70 mph. Further strengthening
is likely during the next few days and this system will likely become
a typhoon Monday. It will also likely take a path close to Guam at
midweek.

A potent cold front moved northward through northeastern
Argentina, Uruguay and into southern Brazil this weekend. In Uruguay,
the front brought 2.6 inches of rain to the capital city of Montevideo
(Carrasco), 3.2 inches in Durazno, 3.3 inches in Artigas and nearly
5.0 inches in Mercedes. In southern Brazil, downpours brought 2.3
inches to Passo Fundo, 2.5 inches to Foz Do Iguacu and 4.8 inches in
Uruguaiana. In Argentina, Paso de los Libres, had 4.5 inches.

A strong downpour unleashed over 4.5 inches of rain on Iquitos,
Peru, Saturday evening.

Sonnblick, Austria, began building its snowpack for the winter
skiing season this weekend. With already 4 inches of snow on the
ground atop the 10,000-foot mountain, an early-autumn snowstorm
brought a foot of fresh powder Saturday, bringing the base to 16
inches.

Heavy rains soaked the Pais Vascos of northern Spain Friday into
Saturday. At Donostia-San Sebastian, rainfall was 2.6 inches

On the island of Crete in the eastern Mediterranean, Saturday
turned abnormally hot. In Iraklion, a high temperature of 92 degrees
was recorded, nearly 20 degrees above average.
