Super Typhoon Chaba is still churning the waters of the Philippine
Sea. Late Tuesday afternoon, EDT, Chaba is wielding top sustained
winds of 175 mph about an eye which is 390 miles south-southwest of
Iwo Jima, one of Japan's Volcano Islands. The powerful storm is moving
towards the north-northwest at 10 mph. Chaba is forecast to head
northwestward during the next 48-72 hours staying largely over open
seas while weakening slowly. Thereafter, this dangerous storm might
threaten Japan.

Typhoon Aere is pounding northern Taiwan with flooding rains and
damaging winds. Late Tuesday afternoon, EDT, Aere's core is near the
island's northern tip or within 35 miles to the east-southeast of
T'aipei. Moving westward at 8 mph, the storm has maximum sustained
winds of 100 mph. Aere is projected to move slightly south of due west
during the next 24 hours and to land on the nearby Chinese mainland on
Wednesday as a minimal typhoon or as a tropical storm.

As Aere passed over Japan's Sakishima Shoto, the southernmost
Ryukyu Islands, Monday to Tuesday, there were flooding rains and
damaging winds. Rainfall was about 11.6 inches at Ishigaki Jima and
10.6 inches at Miyako Jima as of Tuesday evening, local time. Each
island clocked 50-60 mph sustained winds. Tuesday and Tuesday night,
northern Taiwan felt the brunt of the typhoon. T'aipei was drenched by
8.7 inches of rain and was lashed by tropical storm strength winds.
P'engchia Yu, an island in the East China Sea, was belted by sustained
winds of at least 65 mph while being soaked by 5.6 inches of rain.

Tropical Depression Estelle continues to ply the waters of the
central North Pacific Ocean. Late Tuesday afternoon, EDT, Estelle is
centered 460 miles southeast of Hilo' Hawai'i, where it holds top
sustained winds near 30 mph. The depression is forecast to move
generally westward over open seas south of the Hawaiian Islands during
the next 2-3 days with little change in strength foreseen.

An un-named tropical depression is drifting over the eastern North
Pacific Ocean. This depression has highest sustained winds of 35 mph
as of late Tuesday afternoon, EDT. Centered 1025 miles west-southwest
of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, the depression is moving westward at 7 mph.
A bearing more-or-less towards the west with no interaction with land
and little or no change in strength is forecast for this cyclone
during the next 2-3 days.

Frank is a weakening hurricane over the eastern North Pacific
Ocean. Maximum sustained winds within Frank's core are down to 80 mph
as of late Tuesday afternoon, EDT. The hurricane is located about 365
miles west-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and it is moving
northwestward at 10 mph. Only open seas and further weakening are
indicated for Frank during the next 2-3 days.

Rainfall was about 8.7 inches within 54 hours ended Tuesday
morning, local time, at Sola on the island of Vanua Lava. Vanua Lava
is part of the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu.

Over southern Japan, Murutomisaki, Japan, saw over 10 inches of
