[STORMREPORTS] 60mm of Rain in 2 hours causes floods in Cornwall
Monday August 16, 06:01 PM
"There was a torrential downpour with serious flooding. Vehicles have got stuck in the flood water and some people need help," a police spokesman said on Monday.
The flooding was affecting an area around Camelford, about 200 miles from London in north Cornwall. At least three helicopters and two lifeboats were deployed.
The excess rainwater was heading out to sea and there was flooding in Boscastle, on the coast, the police spokesman said.
"A footbridge has been swept away in Boscastle, but we have no indications of any casualties," Devon and Cornwall police said.
A spokesman for the Royal Navy's air base at Culdrose said one of its helicopters had been sent to the scene along with others from the Royal Air Force and the local air ambulance service.
