August 15, 2004 2:46 p.m.

Moisture from former Typhoon Rananim produced additional heavy
rainfall over parts of China on Saturday, with 4.23 inches falling at
Wuhan and 4 inches drenching Nanyue.

The remains of Tropical Storm Bonnie are helping to bring plenty
of rainfall to postal portions of Canada, especially in the New
Brunswick providence. Friday saw 2.57 inches of rain as the storm
moved northward into the northern Atlantic. Most of this occurred late
in the day Friday over coastal portions of New Brunswick. At
Gagetown, over an inch of rain fell within 6 hours on Saturday
morning.

Sunday afternoon, EDT, Tropical Depression 18W was 485 miles
southeast of Okinawa and moving northwest at 19 mph. The storm had
winds sustained at 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph. The storm is expected
to remain on a northwesterly heading for the next several days
northwest over the next several days and strengthen to near
Typhoon-force before approaching the southern Japanese islands or
Taiwan.

Recently formed Tropical Storm Earl crossed the Lesser Antilles
and entered the Caribbean Sea on Sunday morning. At Hewanorra
Vieux-Fort, St. Lucia, sustained winds of 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph
were recorded.

Some cold weather has invaded New Zealand recently. At
Christchurch, a mixture of rain and snow fell on Sunday night, local
time, as temperatures held near freezing. The average high
temperature for this date is in the middle 50s.
