[STORMREPORTS] CAT 3 Charley Turns To The Right
Here in suburban SW Plant City, FL I'm now experiencing feeder band #2 from CAT 3 Hurricane Charley, with a falling barometer and gusty south wind to 30 mph. This feeder band is triggering multiple tornado warnings from NWS Tampa Bay.
Due to speed divergence (friction of the east side of the cyclone circulation against the coast) Hurricane Charley has now turned slightly east of north as of 1:00 pm EDT. If this trend continues then this means a landfall south of Tampa Bay and we have dodged a mega billion $$$ storm surge disaster.
Unfortunately though it means a bad blow for Charlotte Harbor between Sarasota and Ft. Myers, another very vulnerable and highly populated estuary.
It also means that my immediate metro area of Plant City/Lakeland "may" see a bigger blow with the eye wall possibly passing overhead. Odds are that once the eye wall comes ashore "near" Venice, it will turn back to a more northerly heading.
