Morning Folks,
We are waking up this morning to a ghost town here in
Sarasota/Bradenton area. We are just south of the Tampa Bay area.
Currently watching every little wobble Hurricane Charley makes on
nexrad radar here in our hotel room. We are located 2 miles inland
at this time and not sure if we will need to move north or south
during the day. We plan to intercept the right-front side of the
eyewall later today. We will update again later today before the
core winds moves in.
Im joinned with Chris Collura and Jason Foster. Doug Kiesling is
just to my north and Jim Edds is down the street from us to the
west. Most hurricane chasers are in place around the area. Our base
camp here at the Holiday INN has some backup power and highspeed
internet that should hold for a while. We have backup power for our
laptops and camera gear to last until tomorrow.
During the storm we will slowly move around during the eyewall
passage documenting with video and digital photos, take winds and
pressure readings, and sample the winds. Sometime later tonight we
should have some of the first images online from our locations
during the eyewall.
More to come from the west central coast of Florida.
