[STORMREPORTS] Lightning On FL Sunshine Skyway Sunday Night
When I went fishing Sunday night on the "south" Sunshine Skyway fishing piers near Palmetto, FL, a line of heavy thunderstorms rolled through from the SE. The time was pretty late at approximately 10:00 pm. I saw allot of point blank lightning repeatedly strike the 40 foot tall metal lighting poles on the piers. The bolt channels were fiery orange and had beads of plasma contained within. When the bolts hit the metal poles the poles would making a dinging sound like a ships bell.
What was even more incredible were the many fishermen standing on the piers totally fearless and continuing to fish. How no one was struck is beyond me. I was stunned at the brazen ignorance!!!!! My family and I stayed in our cars for two hours before I deemed it safe for us to get out and begin fishing. Boy what a light show of lightning too for many hours out over the adjacent Gulf Of Mexico. Unfortunately I did not bring my digital camera.
Take Care,
