Newly formed Tropical Storm Namtheun is expected to continue to
intensify over the next few days. The storm is nearly 505 miles
east-southeast of Iwo Jima, and moving to the northwest at 11 mph
early Sunday morning, EDT. The storm has winds of 55 mph with gusts to
75 mph. The storm will have to be tracked over the next several days
as it will approach Japan.
Tropical Depression Celia is continuing to move into the Pacific
Ocean. Early Sunday morning, EDT, the storm was continuing to move to
the west-northwest at 14 mph and is nearly 1370 miles west of Socorro
island. The winds are currently at 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph. The
storm is expected to continue dying off over the next 12-24 hours.
An overly active monsoonal pattern in Bangladesh and into
northeastern India and Nepal have brought flooding to nearly two
thirds of the area. Sylhet, Bangladesh, is a perfect example as over
the weekend, nearly 5 inches of rain has fallen. The rainfall is the
most in more than 15 years and the flooding has brought an outbreak of
water-born disease.
The temperatures in the Iberian Peninsula continue to bring plenty
of heat to the region. Temperatures in Jezer De La Fronter, Spain,
reached 108 degrees on Sunday, with Saturday reaching a temperature of
109 degrees. This is compared to the normal temperature of 85 degrees.
The low only dropped to 77 degrees, making it nearly 10 degrees above
their average low also. The heat was also in Madrid, Spain on Saturday
as temperatures climbed to 103 degrees, above their normal high of 86
degrees. Sunday was just as warm with the high hitting 101 degrees.
