Guess today was our turn for some heavy rain. Heavy rain began
falling around 10am this morning, and continued nearly unabated
through most of the day. Rain rates of 4.72"/hr at 11:00am, was
later beaten by a rate of 4.8"/hr at 4:30 pm. My station received
1.63" in about an hours time, and then was followed by another
1.2" in just a half an hour. My daily total currently stands at
3.81" as of this writing. Needless to say, Flash Flood warnings
are NOW flying high throughout the area. On my way home from work,
flooding was particularly severe on Rt. 17. I saw several people
stranded with water near or over their car's hoods. It's amazing
that some people think they can drive through water of that
depth.

The really disturbing part of today's heavy rain event was the fact
that the NWS out of Upton NY, did not have my area under a Flash
Flood Watch, but yet the Mt. Holly office had much of the state
under a watch, issued the previous evening. Even Upton's short term
forecasts and warnings seemed to have been a bit slow today.

It should also be noted that this was the greatest 24 hr rain since
Floyd affected this area back in Sept of 99'.
