Well, I was at the Indy 500 yesterday. I left at the first rain delay because
I heard people on their cell phones getting reports of tornado's in the
surrounding counties. I decided I didnt wanna be in that mass of humanity should
the severe weather strike. Boy am I glad we left when we did!! On the way back
North to the Hotel in Anderson, I was listening to reports of the weather. When
we got back, we turned on the tv and the local stations were all doing an
excellent job of covering the event.
Right as the storms were moving into central Indiana, the race was finishing
up. Marion County (Indianapolis) got hit really hard right as the race traffic
was piling up. Saw amazing footage of this cell on the traffic cams around
town. There was a nursing home on the South side of town with the roof blown
off. Thankfully, no one was seriouslly injured.
Not long after that, Madison County (Anderson) recieved a warning for the
same cell. Thankfully, it had weekend and we just got heavy rain and lots and
lots of lightning. About half an hour after that, a bow echo had formed and moved
into town. We were on the south side of it and it wasnt too bad. Just a lot
of wind and rain. The north side was a bit stronger and did some straight line
wind dammage.
All said and done, I decided I need to learn my Indiana counties better. I'm
from Ohio :) Also decided I dont like going through that kind of weather when
I'm not at home. At home, I know where to go, etc. when trouble approaches.
Thuogh, I did get to hang out for a bit in the women's restroom in the hotel. :)
Hope everyone made it through yesterday ok and that those in the South make
it through ok today!
