Date: Sun May 30 2004 - 16:48:18 EDT

For the second Saturday in two weeks, I've viewed the world from the
basement for part of the evening.
Last night, tornado warnings in cairo, where I was visiting my daughter,
kept me from returning home to Grand Island, which also had a tornado
warning.
We remained outdoors for a time, watching the clouds being sucked up like a
vaccuum cleaner taking dust, until a line of storms began that made outside
viewing difficult.
Last week, the wall cloud that lingered over Cairo made interesting
photography. This week, the hail made taking pictures somewhat painful and
less of a priority.
Straight line winds tore limbs from trees in the front yard.
Rotating clouds above us, downpours and high winds seemed to be the order of
the evening. Earlier in the day, downdrafts had been a problem.. During the
evening that changed.
Severe updrafts, lifted the next doors neighbors 8 foot tall wood fence
panels and deposited them , releasing her dogs.
Approximately 60 mile an hour winds, gusting to 70, and fifty cent piece
size hail complicated repairing it for a time last evening.
A friend who lives with us was visiting Colorado, and returning home during
the afternoon hours, through Lexington, Broken Bow and across Nebraska.
He reported watching tornados across the miles, while driving in sunshine.

All in all, it's been an interesting two weekends in south central
Nebraska..
Robbi.
