This one also took place during this past Tuesday's
storms in the Northeast U.S. It was emailed to me
from (and courtesy of) the Augusta, Maine newspaper by
a fellow weather aficianado who spends his summer
weekends in picturesque Maine and keeps up with the
news there year round.
What made it stand out was how the lightning traveled
from a tree, down its roots, to a swimming pool, and
into a house, plus the "Unbelievable destruction" it
caused.

"NORTH BELGRADE -- A Little League baseball game
probably kept a North Belgrade family out of harm's
way Tuesday night, as family members were several
miles from home when a lightning strike rendered their
home practically uninhabitable.
The strike, which occurred about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday
after a thunderstorm moved into the area, caused an
undetermined amount of damage to the home's interior,
deck and pool, and has the family searching for a
another place to live.
Lightning hit a tree in his back yard, and electricity
traveled through the roots to the family pool, through
the house, and blasted a transformer near Stony Point
Road.
On Wednesday the scene was still a mess, with debris
strung all over the back yard and glass scattered
throughout the interior of the home.
Had family members been home, they would have been in
danger, because the electricity broke windows, blew
out appliances and fried electrical sockets as it
moved through the house, Stevens said.
Nearly everything in the Atwoods' basement, where the
couple's four children play, was covered in broken
glass and soot Wednesday. Toys were half-flattened by
a collapsed wall. Electrical sockets were charred."
