 Rainfall was 8.8 inches within about 72 hours ended early Friday,
local time, at Tauranga on New Zealand's North Island.

 The island of Kosrae, part of the western North Pacific Ocean's
Federated States of Micronesia, has been rainy lately. Early this
week, downpours left 3.9 inches of rain here, then heavy showers
dropped another 2.1 inches of rain within 24 hours to Thursday
morning, local time.

 Early Thursday, local time, a cloudburst broke over northwestern
Sumatra, Indonesia. At Meulaboh, almost 7.1 inches of rain fell in
six hours or less.

 Vostok station, Antarctica, continues to see temperatures dropping
as winter approaches. The low temperature Thursday dropped to 99
degrees below zero, making it the coldest day so far this year.
