"The National Weather Service has confirmed that the high wind that hit
Whatcom County overnight was a tornado. Forecasters from Seattle took a
look Wednesday at the damage 2 miles east of Sumas. Meteorologist Johnny
Burg says it was an F-0 tornado with winds of 70 mph along a swath 100
yards wide. It was on the ground 6 minutes and traveled 2.7 miles.

Burg says the tornado was in open fields most of the time but tore part of
the roof off a barn. The wind also sent trees toppling onto homes. In
Seattle, the storm unleashed hail and rain. Thousands of people in four
counties lost power for several hours. "
