Hidi-ho good neighbors. Greetings from the wind tunnel of the mid Atlantic. Another day, another chance for the wind to sweep my homestead in the hills off the mountain. Yesterday (Tuesday) at 5 PM the wind gusted out of the north at 51 mph. It is the fifth day this month where the wind gusted 50+ mph. That ties the record for any month set on several occasions. With a couple more days remaining in this month it will be interesting to see if it can be broken. The unusual winds began in 2001 and have increased the wind records each year since. It appears that this year will continue the trend. Here is a quick recap of two wind records which have been broken each year since 2001 and this year's total so far.
Days with gusts 40+ mph
Record (2003): 69
So Far in 2004: 38
Days with gusts 50+ mph
Record (2003): 33
So Far in 2004: 7
Today is 'calmer' wind wise with the peak gust so far today only at 38 mph. Now where is a kite when you need one? Until later..........
Jim
