Winchester VA

A slow moving cold front produced another decent rain in most of the Mid
Atlantic Sunday & Monday. A series of thunderstorms developed Saturday
night in WV. They moved thru just to our north (missing us by about 10
miles Sunday am).

More light showers fell here Sunday afternoon. Overnight into Monday
midday, light to moderate rain fell. A bit of thunder was noted
about 4am & 9am Monday. Rain ended about 3pm Monday.

My total was 1.49" for Sunday evening thru Monday afternoon. It was .10"
below the daily rain record. April's rain is now 4.88" and we are about
1.2" over year to date normal.

With cold air afoft & an initially clear sky Tuesday, fair weather
cumulus poped up, as did scattered showers. A few thundeshowers formed
as well. The heaviest activity was about 40 miles southwest of
Washington DC at 5pm. Several of the cells had high wind gusts, and a
few could produce pea size hail.

The NWS issued several special marine warnings for the tidal Potomac
River & the Chesapeake Bay. Also, a short term High Wind Warning was
issued between 7 & 8pm for 3 counties just to my east. That was because
a shower produced a 50mph gust at the Winchester Regional Airport.

There are frost advisories in affect west of the Blue Ridge early
Wednesday, and 2 mountainous conyies were upgraded to freeze warnings
late Tuesday evening.

The next chance of rain is Saturday or Sunday. I much rather the next
one is at night or waits till next week. We have the 77th annual Apple
Blossom Festival thru Sunday. (The carnival opened Tuesday, and the bulk
of the events occur Fri to Sunday.) Just a note if your planning to
visit, there are NO motel rooms (this weekend) within 40 miles of town.
We have 250,000 guests visiting, including several celebrities.

I'll be mowing today, which I put off last week, and now the grass is
several inches high in places.
