"ELSINORE, Mo. - Severe weather rumbled through southeast Missouri Saturday
evening, downing power lines and trees while peeling away some roofs. At
least a half dozen people were injured, none fatally, authorities said.
National Weather Service workers planned to inspect the damage Sunday to
determine whether tornadoes or straight-line winds caused damage around
this Carter County town and by Patterson, in Wayne County. Both towns are
in or near the Mark Twain National Forest.
A reported tornado touched down about 5:20 p.m. on the western outskirts of
Elsinore, largely downing electrical lines and trees, Carter County
sheriff's dispatcher Gary Sullivan said.
The other possible tornado touched ground about 6 p.m. around Patterson,
again damaging roofs, said meteorologist Mary Lamm of the National Weather
Service in Paducah, Ky.
Throughout southeast Missouri, "We were issuing other tornado warnings but
never had another touchdown" Saturday night, she said."
