QUOTES:

"CHICAGO (CBS 2) The reported number of tornadoes that hit Illinois
continues to rise, and new reports of damage are coming into the National
Weather Service. Thursday two of its meteorologists went out in Chopper 2
to verify the reports.

Those two National Weather Service meteorologists we are able to bring CBS
2 never before seen or heard analysis of Tuesday's storms. Thursday, Jim
Allsopp and Albert Pietrycha headed up to the sky with CBS 2's Kris
Habermehl to confirm even more reports of tornado touchdowns.

They first traveled to east central Kankakee County. A church in Hopkins
Park took a direct hit. After analyzing the landscape Allsopp and Pietrycha
estimated the tornado responsible for the damage was about forty yards wide
and traveled for about a mile. "It looks like the tornado missed most of
the town only the structural damage I can ascertain is the church,"
Pietrycha said.

They then moved on to the Ford Iroquois County line, just west of the town
of Clifton. Dark marks in the farm fields are known as "scour marks," and
they give the best aerial perspective of how far the tornadoes traveled.

"This twister was estimated to be about 20 to 25 yards wide and traveled
for about three and a half miles,"

Other markings were discovered just north of the Kankakee Airport. From the
looks of it, they were the widest of the three tornadoes, and traveled the
greatest distance sparing Kankakee Community College. Allsopp and Pietrycha
categorized it as an F1 tornado on the Fujita Scale."
