A drenching thunderstorm pelted Delhi, India, Thursday breaking the
seasonal drought. Rainfall was 1.1 inches, or more than four-times
the mean monthly rainfall. Thanks in part to the downpour, a string
of 100-degree days ended at thirteen. Even so, it was only the second
day in April thus far not to reach at least 100 degrees. It's been a
hot month!
A swathe of northern Russia has lately been gripped by unusual cold
more than 20 degrees below normal. Muzhi, between the Ob' River and
the northern Ural Mountains, dipped 21 degrees below zero early
Friday thereby undercutting the average low by at least 30 degrees.
Minus-21 degrees was also set far to the east in Chukotka: Ust' Oloy
and Ilirney reached this mark early Friday.
In central Turkey, the town of Kirsehir reported 6.7 inches of
rain within 12 hours as of late Friday morning, local time. If
accurate, the downpour is nearly five-fold the average rainfall here
for all of April.
