TORNADO slices through the county

CLINTON - One confirmed tornado cut a swath through the Clinton County
countryside Tuesday evening... According to the National Weather Service
office at Mount Joy, at 7:07 p.m. spotters sighted a tornado on the ground
two miles east of Elwood, located just west of Delmar and southwest of
Maquoketa. At 7:08 p.m. the funnel was spotted four miles north of Welton,
where residents reported damage after a barn was destroyed near U.S.
61. "A 60-foot-by-80-foot pole barn was taken out," Clinton County
sheriff's deputy Perry Lamp said. "It left debris in a field in the 1500
block of 220th Avenue. We were lucky it wasn't a house."

TORNADO rips roof off skating party

Kokomo, April 21 - The morning after a tornado roared through Kokomo, heavy
equipment moved in to help with cleanup. The tornado swept across a
six-block area uprooting trees, toppling flagpoles and ripping off
rooftops, most notably at the Kokomo skating arena, where several people
stopped to see the damage firsthand.

TORNADO tears through rural Tuscola property

TUSCOLA -- After a routine business trip to Sullivan, Lottie and Duane
Brian returned home Tuesday afternoon to find a tornado had struck their
farm, ripping off the front porch of their home and smashing their garage.
Several trees near the 80-year-old home were splintered; both sheds were
damaged; the roof of the home's brick porch was folded over the home's
roof; and the garage was decimated, with its roof resting upon two vehicles
that had been parked inside.
