"Most of southern Saskatchewan was hit by a storm Friday, as Saskatoon
faced its first blizzard of the winter.

Blizzard conditions were reported in Saskatoon, Regina, Moose Jaw and North
Battleford. A blizzard warning was in effect in Saskatoon on Friday, where
temperatures were in the deep freeze, snow was falling and visibility was poor.

In Saskatoon, the mercury plummeted to a frosty -27 C, with a wind chill of
about -36 C and winds gusting up to 50 km/h. About five to 10 centimetres
of snow was also expected to fall on Friday and into early today, Cormier said.

Conditions were much worse in Regina, where frigid temperatures, blowing
snow and white-out conditions caused chaos on the roads, closed schools,
colleges and the University of Regina, rerouted buses and forced the
cancellation of events around the city.

Things were equally messy outside city limits, where the Trans-Canada
highway was closed from Regina to the Alberta border."
