MEDIA ARTICLE:
"ULTON, N.Y. -- Residents were measuring the snow Friday morning in feet,
not inches, in communities along Lake Ontario's eastern shore, where lake
effect squalls left some areas under nearly five feet of snow.
The highest official total came from Parrish, 30 miles north of Syracuse,
where 54 inches fell during a 32-hour period ending at midnight.
In Fulton, 22 inches piled up during a five-hour span Thursday morning. The
storm left a total of 29 inches _ on top of the 38 inches that fell a week
ago.
"This is about as deep as I can remember," said Paul Cardinali, a retired
earth science teacher who's measured the snowfall in Fulton since 1972.
State police said driving remained hazardous even on major highways. On
Thursday, a 15-mile stretch of Interstate 81 was closed for several hours
because of heavy snow and gusting winds."
