Had the not so pleasant task of doing the OBS here at
Duluth Intl Airport in Northern Minnesota last night.
With temps running from -17 (WED 7PM) to -30 (Thurs
6AM) with a few gusts over the 20kt mark, I cannot
really describe just how cold that feels. I went out
to start my vehicle every three hours and it was very
stiff every time. ( I was too)With a distance of about
40ft from the end of the Terminal thru the parking lot
to the car , my face would STING, and sitting on the
seat felt like sitting on a board. The schools were
closed Mon and Tues due to the record snowfall and the
today they were closed due to dangerous wind-chills
and looks like the same for Friday AM. It is just
plain BRUTAL !!!
While doing OBS up in Hibbing MN in the early
nineties we recorded a wind-chill of -106 but that was
using the old ChillCharts. The temp, I beleive was a
balmy -44 .
All I've got to say is " Come On Summer" !
