[STORMREPORTS] Snowy & Windy in Central Pennsylvania

From: Jesse Ferrell (WeatherMatrix) (jesse{at}weathermatrix.net)
Date: Wed Jan 28 2004 - 07:15:39 EST

 From WJAC-TV in Johnstown PA:

"More snow fell overnight and that topped with howling winds has made for
more treacherous driving conditions across the area.

The snowblowers were out in full force as the area saw upwards of ten
inches on top of what we had earlier in the week. Some areas now have close
to two feet of snow on the ground. PennDot crews are working to clear the
roads, but they're having a hard time because of the blowing and drifting
snow."

Here at WeatherMatrix HQ in State College, PA, we received close to 6"
yesterday, 4" of that falling between 3pm and 5pm during a heavy snow
burst. Over one foot is on the ground here. It has been two weeks since
we've been above freezing (32F) and three weeks since we have had a low
temperature in the 20s or higher. Winds are expected to be near 40mph here
today, which will cause blowing and drifting snow. Over 150 school
closures or delays have been reported to WJAC-TV.
