As it stands right now, Key Lake in northern Saskatchewan Canada, which
plummeted to a low of -46 degrees C (-51 F) last night is sitting at -50
degrees C (-58 F) tonight. The all-time record for this station is -51.5
degrees C (-60.7 F) set just a little over 2 years ago, on January 20, 2002.
I'll update tomorrow morning after finding out whether it broke the record
or not. Edmonton AB reached a low -39 C (-38 F) tonight but has since
climbed back to -35 C (-31 F). The forecasted low tomorrow morning was -42
C (-44 F). Lloydminister AB is currently reporting -39 C (-38 F) with an
extreme windchill of -53 C (-64 F), and has surely recorded lower throughout
the night. Regina, one of Saskatchewan's two biggest cities, is currently
reporting -38 C (-35 F) with a windchill of -51 C (-59 F). Again, I'll
update tomorrow morning when the temperatures have all hit their daily lows
and began to climb again. Many records are being challenged tonight in the
Canadian prairies. The Bow River running through Calgary's city centre has
now completely frozen over for the first time this winter, a water main is
still under repair after it burst from the extreme temperatures 2 days ago
and 100,000 people in the city are left without water, and so many car
stalls have been reported that the companies have warned motorists that
they're looking at a wait of atleast 2 hours if their car stalls. Still no
school closures within the city.
