QUOTES:
"The winter's biggest blast of snow yet arrived by the foot Friday in parts
of Central New York, placing the region on a path toward one of its
snowiest seasons on record.
A band of intense lake-effect snow buried Fulton under 38 inches in 24
hours, leaving the city in a state of emergency. (Neighboring Hannibal had
38 inches. )But other Central New York communities saw barely more than a
dusting. The sun even appeared briefly in downtown Syracuse.
The snow brought this season's total to 106.9 inches in Syracuse. That's
45.6 inches more than normal through Jan. 23. Syracuse's average over the
past 30 years for an entire winter is 119 inches.
With the latest storm, Syracuse is now off to its fourth-snowiest start to
a season, according to the Northeast Regional Climate Center at Cornell
University.
A total of almost 9 feet of snow has arrived only one month into winter. It
snowed for 14 consecutive days through Friday, and all but two days in
January had at least a trace of snow. "
