[STORMREPORTS] New November wind record and flooding. Smithsburg, MD 2 NE

From: JimTheWeatherGuy{at}aol.com
Date: Wed Nov 19 2003 - 18:49:26 EST

Hidi-ho good neighbors. Greetings from the flooded out, wind stripped, and
yet strangely still high desert of the mid Atlantic. At 12:26 this afternoon the
wind at my homestead in the hills gusted out of the South at 66 mph. This is
a new high gust record for the month of November surpassing 63 mph set this
past November 13. It is the second day this month with a wind gust of 60+ mph.
That ties a record for the most 60+ mph days in any one month with this past
September. Quite windy in my part of the world the last three months with new 27
year wind records being set on six different occasions in the last three
months. There has been 25 days so far this month with 50+ mph wind gusts. That is
nearly double the old record. Totally amazing. So far (it is still raining as
of 6:44 PM) 1.53 inches of rain has fallen. Moderate flooding of small streams
are occurring. A portion of MD RT. 66 outside of Smithsburg is closed because
the Little Antietam Creek overflowed it's banks. Several smaller roads have
standing water on them. Surprising little damage from the high winds though
there was a total 'gray out' with the winds and heavy rain during that one
squall. Until later............
 Jim
