[STORMREPORTS] Temps to -50 in Alaska

A couple stations in Alaska reached the coveted -50 F point this
morning:
-51 F (-46 C) so far at Chandalar Lake and Arctic Village.

Fairbanks managed to kiss the -30 F (-34 C) mark.

While this may seem a bit early for such temperatures to us
Lower 48'ers, the limited climate records I could quickly lay my
hands on this morning tell me that this is probably about "normal"
to have such a cold outbreak in mid-November -- Northway has logged
their first -50 F as early as 11 November. I could find a few stations
that
have recorded -50 F temps in November (-51F at Dietrich Camp,
-52F at Coldfoot Camp, -53F at Umiat, and -62F at Prospect Creek Camp).

All of which makes the 33 F (+1 C) this morning in Madison
seem downright balmy...
