November 14, 2003 6:12 p.m.

Tropical Cyclone Beni continues to weaken over the open South
Indian Ocean. Late Friday afternoon, EST, Beni is 605 miles southeast
of Diego Garcia in the Chagos Archipelago. Highest sustained winds are
about 50 mph, and Beni is drifting towards the southeast at 8 mph.
Beni is forecast to dissipate over open seas within the next two to
three days.

An un-named tropical cyclone is still over the western North
Indian Ocean drifting towards the Horn of Africa. Late Friday
afternoon, EST, this storm, now much weakened from its peak of
strength, is located within about 360 miles to the east of coastal
Somalia. Top winds are 55-60 mph (they had been 100 mph early in the
day), and it is drifting towards the west at 6 mph. Forecasters are
now keying on dry inflow from the west to sap the strength of this
storm before it approaches the shores of Somalia Saturday night and
early Sunday, local time.

Following a speedy trek across the middle Philippine archipelago,
Nepartak has moved over the South China Sea. Since emerging over these
waters, the storm has fluctuated as being a strong tropical storm and
a minimal typhoon. Late Friday afternoon, EST, Nepartak is a tropical
storm with highest sustained winds of about 70 mph. Centered north of
Palawan, or about 255 miles southwest of Manila, Philippines, the
storm is moving westward at 13 mph. Nepartak will be over the South
China Sea for the next 24 to 48 hours, then its forecast track will
bring it threateningly near to the eastern "bulge" of Vietnam late
Sunday or early Monday, local time.

Three-day rainfall of about 12 inches was observed as of Friday
evening at Nakhon Si Thammarat in southern Thailand. Rainfall was 8
to 10 inches at Surat Thani, also on the Malay Peninsula, and on the
nearby island of Ko Samui.

Stormy weather beset parts of the British Isles Friday. Ireland,
Wales and southern England were especially rainy and windy. In
Ireland, bursts of heavy rain came amidst strong winds. Shannon
withstood winds to nearly 60 mph. Valley, Wales, clocked highest wind
gusts of nearly 65 mph. In England, gusts of 50-55 mph were registered
at Culdrose in the southwest and at Coventry in the Midlands.

In northern Iran, rainfall was locally heavy Friday. At Babulsar,
3.1 inches of rain was collected within 18 hours.
