Video from the storm which caused rain (up to 10") and hail (up to 4 feet
per this reporter) is available on this site. There appeared to be still
a foot or two of hail the next morning (the storm was at 7 pm!) The
reported noted this was a 100-year storm.

Quotes from article at top:
"LOS ANGELES -- A freak storm pummeled parts of Southern California with up
to five inches of rain and hail, forcing motorists to abandon swamped cars
at the height of rush hour and leaving thousands of residents without power.
Early Thursday, hail remained on the ground in hard-hit areas including
Watts and the neighboring communities of South Gate and Compton. At least
one school flooded by the storm was closed, and some residential areas were
still without power.
A small mudslide covered part of Highway 18 near Rimforest in the San
Bernardino Mountains, but the road remained open and no more serious slides
were reported.
