[STORMREPORTS] Cool Morning In Florida/Aurora

From: Thomas Giella KN4LF (kn4lf{at}tampabay.rr.com)
Date: Thu Oct 30 2003 - 10:14:54 EST

A cool morning here in suburban SW Plant City, had 54.4 deg. It reached
that by midnight then rose to 56.1 by sunrise, due to a light NE wind. The
state cold spot was 45 deg. at East Nobleton on the west central peninsula.
I received only 0.75" of rainfall here in October 2003, though other areas
had much more. That's only the second month with below normal precipitation
in the last 19 months. The month was also a little warmer then normal.
No visible Aurora was seen here last night here in west central Florida,
as the Bz magnetic component of Earth's magnetic field shifted back to
positive. The Bz was at -50 when the K was 9 and A was 400. Our best chance
was early Wednesday morning but the thunderstorms earlier in the evening
left cloudiness behind. It was seen in Tallahassee, FL and Houston, TX.
We have another chance of seeing visible Aurora on Halloween night, as the
next Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) blasts our magnetic field in association
with the huge X11+ solar flare. For those interested in solar, space and
geomagnetic weather I have a website at http://www.kn4lf.com/kn4lf5.htm .
We Floridian's are also keeping a watchful eye on ex T.S. Nicholas for
next week.

Take Care,
Thomas F. Giella
