Torrential, flooding rains swamped southwestern British Columbia
late Wednesday through early Friday. On Vancouver Island, Malahat was
washed by rain amounting to 7.4 inches. At Sheringham, 6.8 inches
fell, and the airport at Victoria, the provincial capital, collected

hit hard. Vancouver Harbour registered two-day rainfall of 6.4 inches

Torrential rains near the Pacific coast coincided with warming
chinook winds astride the US-Canada border east of the Rocky
Mountains. Thursday night and Friday saw wind gusts between 50 and 75
mph at Pincher Creek in the Alberta Rockies. Southern Alberta dawned
Friday with temperatures near or slightly above the mean daily highs
for mid October. By late Friday afternoon, temperatures were in the
60s and 70s across southern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan. The
warmest sites were in southern Saskatchewan near the borders with
Montana and North Dakota. Val Marie registered 77 degrees while both
Rockglen and Estevan surged to 75. The average high at this time of
the year in these three sites is in the upper 40s to lower 50s.

At Hue, Vietnam, two-day rainfall was 13.1 inches as of Friday
evening, local time.

A storm unloaded heavy rain upon the northwestern shores of the
Mediterranean Sea Thursday and Friday. At Perpignan, France, rainfall
was 3.8 inches, including a 2.6-inches burst that came within six
hours early Friday morning. In nearby northeastern Spain, Gerona was
doused by 2.4 inches of rain while Barcelona collected 2.1 inches.
