[STORMREPORTS] PEMA: Wind Damage, Possible Tornadoes in PA 10/15

The following reports were received today from the Pennsylvania Emergency
Management Agency.

D. Power Outage

(Erie County, 9:00 p.m., 10/14/03) A power outage affecting approximately
750 customers occurred in various municipalities in Erie County. Penelec
is working to restore service.

The SEOC will follow-up.

Notifications: Public Utility Commission and PEMA Western Regional Office

K. Power Outage

(Lehigh County, 11:43 a.m., 10/15/03) A power outage occurred in Coplay
Borough due to downed power lines caused by high winds.

The State EOC will follow-up.

Notifications: Public Utility Commission and PEMA Eastern Regional Office

N. Power Outage

(PECO Energy, 12:00 p.m., 10/15/03) Approximately 40,000 PECO customers in
Chester County lost electrical power due to downed utility lines caused by
high winds. At
8:09 p.m., October 15, Chester County 911 reported that approximately
13,000 customers remained without power.

The SEOC will follow-up.

Notifications: Public Utility Commission, Chester County and PEMA Eastern
Regional Office

S. Storm Damage Report

(Susquehanna County, 6:48 p.m., 10/15/03) Several trees and wires fell on
a commercial structure in Montrose Township; no injuries were reported.

The incident was terminated at 8:35 p.m.

W. Power Outage Update

(Public Utility Commission (PUC), 10:00 p.m., 10/15/03) PUC reported the
following update on power outages from the October 14 – 15 high wind event:

Met Ed – 9,000 customers without power. Full restoration is estimated for
midnight, October 16.
Penelec – 15,000 customers without power. Full restoration is estimated
for midnight, October 16.
Allegheny Power – 737 customers without power. Full restoration is
estimated of
11:00 a.m., October 16.
PA Rural Electric Association – Scattered outages system wide
PPL – 38,000 customers without power. Full restoration is estimated for
midnight, October 16 or 17.
PECO – 42,000 customers without power. Full restoration is estimated for
4:00 p.m., October 16.

The PUC will update these figures at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 16.

Y. Storm-Related Death

(National Weather Service (Preliminary Local Storm Report), 2:00 p.m.,
10/15/03) One stormed-related death was reported in Haverford Township,
Delaware County, when a tree fell on a vehicle.

GG. Follow-up – Adverse Weather – Beaver County

The National Weather Service will be investigating a possible tornado
touchdown in Beaver County.

The SEOC will follow-up.

HH. Follow-up – Adverse Weather – Butler County

(American Red Cross, 2:00 p.m., 10/15/03) The American Red Cross reported
conducted damage assessment in Cranberry Township, Butler County. They
reported the following: one dwelling destroyed; eight dwellings with major
damage and 59 with minor damage. The Butler County American Red Cross
Chapter received a report that an apartment building was also damaged in
Butler Township; the county emergency management agency was investigating.

The National Weather Service is scheduled to travel to Cranberry Township
on Thursday, October 16, to investigate a possible tornado touchdown.
