The thunderstorms embedded in the rain field last night also caused
considerable damage in Western Pennsylvania, causing unofficial gusts of up
to 70mph. A news story from the AP (with Photo) is quoted below.

"CRANBERRY, Pa. - Thunderstorms packing winds as high as 70 mph tore roofs
off buildings, felled utility poles and trees and left thousands in the
dark as they pushed across western Pennsylvania.
Most of the damage was centered in Butler County, north of Pittsburgh,
where roofs were ripped off several homes and businesses, windows were
blown out and the upper floors of some buildings were sent crashing onto
streets, said Frank Matis, director of emergency management in Butler County.
About 13,000 people were left in the dark, according to officials from
Duquesne Light and Allegheny Power. By early Wednesday morning, only about
1,000 customers were still without power.
Matis said winds pushed a construction trailer into the side of a building
and sent roofs tumbling onto parked cars at a mall in Cranberry, about 15
miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
Further north in Butler, the storms felled trees and power lines and
toppled the top stories of four buildings, sending bricks raining on the
street below, said Bob Krimbel, deputy fire chief of the Lyndora Volunteer
Fire Company. "
