i live 6 mi north of buxton
the island is fine with the exception of the last village on the island of
hatteras
3 small inlets now separate hatteras from the rest of the island
i had friends who rode out the surge in their houses, some had to be rescued
when their houses floated out in the pamlico sound. another friend owns a
heavy equipment company and drove an ORV into the height of the storm to rescue 2
deputies, 1 coast guardsman and a family from the washed out rt 12
he said waves were 15ft hi breaking on top of the vehicle...the people tied
themselves to the vehicle with ropes, it overturned by seas 3x with them
attached but all are safe.
