[STORMREPORTS] AccuWeather World Weather Highlights Wednesday, Aug 27

From: admin{at}weathermatrix.net
Date: Wed Aug 27 2003 - 10:40:00 EDT

August 27, 2003 9:40 a.m.

Early Wednesday, Ignacio dissipated astride the southern
Baja California Peninsula of Mexico. Overnight, the tropical
depression was located south of Mulege with highest sustained winds
of less than 30 mph. Ignacio was drifting lazily towards the
northwest. Along its path across the Mexican state of Baja California
Sur, Ignacio left a heavy mark: rainfall of 7.7 inches at Ciudad
Constitucion was roughly two-fold the average yearly rainfall. Loreto
saw 5.5 inches of rain, or about one-year's worth of rain. Such rains
likely triggered the legendary "walls of water", reclaiming desert
arroyos in a flash, then almost as fast, sinking into the sand.

As of Tuesday, only one day since July 5th has had an average
temperature below the daily climatological mean in London, England.
During this stretch of warm weather, the average temperature was
7 degrees above "normal".

Manuela, an automated weather station on the Scott Coast of East
Antarctica, clocked sustained winds above 70 mph at an air temperature
of minus-10 degrees Tuesday night, local time. It felt as cold as
55-60 degrees below zero.

Early Wednesday morning, the Esperanza station near the tip of the
Antarctica Peninsula warmed to 48 degrees. The mean high temperature
this time of year -- late in the Southern winter -- is 23 to 24 degrees,
and even at the height of summer, it's only 37 to 38 degrees.
