A HURRICANE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTHERN BAJA
CALIFORNIA PENINSULA FROM SOUTH OF LA PAZ ON THE EAST COAST TO
SOUTH OF SANTA FE ON THE WEST COAST. A TROPICAL STORM WARNING
REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM BAHIA MAGDALENA TO SANTA FE AND FROM SAN
EVARISTO TO LA PAZ.

SATELLITE IMAGES INDICATE THAT THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE
INCREASED TO NEAR 90 MPH...145 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER GUSTS.
ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS POSSIBLE UNTIL THE CENTER MOVES OVER
LAND.

hurricane and inched toward the tip of the Baja California peninsula,
threatening to thread its way up the narrow Gulf of California.

With maximum sustained winds near 80 mph, the hurricane was expected to
strengthen before its center hit land sometime around midday Sunday.

Residents living on the tip of the peninsula in the resort cities of Cabo
