Rainfall has, since early Friday, been 10.2 inches at Mumbai
(Bombay), India.
Blistering "scirocco" winds off the Sahara steered 110-degree
heat right to the Mediterranean shore of Tunisia Sunday. Early
afternoon temperatures were about 110 degrees at Ahmed in the far
north, and 113 degrees at Gabes in the south. Taking the relatively
short hop to Sicily, the scirocco hiked the temperature to at least
106 degrees at Sigonella, Italy.
Sunday, winds of hurricane strength -- 75-80 mph -- were observed
at the Manuela station of East Antarctica. These were steady winds:
gusts were undoubtedly higher. At the time, the temperature was 7
degrees below zero.
