Winchester VA
We had a high of 76 Sat just after noon. A sharp cold front moved thru,
and 24 hours later it was only 34º, or 42º colder!
Having a cloudy sky, we were spared thunderstorms, and had only a few
showers Sat evening.
In the area near Fredericksburg VA (about 55 miles south of Washington
DC) thunderstorms became severe about 6pm Saturday evening, A total of
14 severe warnings, including 4 tornado warnings were issued in the I-95
corridor betwen Richmond & Washington.
There were a few damage reports, but the only reported tornado damage
was to tress west of La Plata MD.
I included images of the Wakefield NWS Doppler radar screen of the
rotating thunderstorms between Stafford VA & La Plata MD in my photo
album. (The Sterling NWS Doppler radar was down Saturday & until about
noon Sunday.)
Here, a light rain began about 2am Sunday, & mixed w/ IP at times
overnight. It changed to all snow about 6am Sunday, & fell until about
8pm, at times moderate to heavy.
I measured a max of 3.25" (in the shade on the north shade of the
house). Generally amounts were 1.5 to 2.5". Water content for entire
storm was .58".
Temeratures fell from 45 at 12:01am Sun to 29 at 11:58pm Sunday evening.
Daytime temp was about 34º.
Snow flurries fell at times later Sunday evening into today. About 2pm
today, it was snowing as heavy if not more than yesterday. With today's
temp was 41, so there was no new acumulation. A small amount of snow
remains on a few surfaces this evening from Sun's storm.
