A convective line of thunderstorms passed over WeatherMatrix HQ in State
College PA just before 11am on March 29, 2003. This line, although up to
56dbZ on radar, contained no lightning, as reported by official (GAI) and
unofficial (our detector) sources. 56dbZ is very high to not be producing
lightning and the resulting "gust front" looked no different than a summer
thunderstorm gust front. High winds were observed and the pressure spiked
0.06" in about 15 minutes while the temperature fell 10 degrees in 10
minutes (see graphs below).
