"DENVER (AP) - A bizarre mix of springlike weather ranging from heavy snow
in the mountains to hail in a suburb and a tornado on the Eastern Plains
swept into Colorado on Monday. Meteorologists predicted a major winter
storm across the Front Range that could rival blizzards in 1991 and 1997.
A tornado touched down Monday afternoon in a rural area about seven miles
northeast of Byers and 40 miles east of Denver, but no damage was reported.
Fredin said pea-size hail fell in Aurora. A few hours after the tornado
touched down, the Weather Service issued a tornado warning for central
Adams and north-central Arapahoe counties."

"Avalanche warnings were issued for Colorado mountain areas where up to 29
inches of snow fell. Loveland Pass was closed by an avalanche. Up to 3 feet
of snow was forecast for Wyoming's Casper Mountain, with up to 2 feet

The storm began Monday with heavy rain and hail, then turned to snow during
the night and intensified during the morning rush hour. "
