Re: [STORMREPORTS] More on the 50-inch snowfall in Garrett County MD

From: Roger D Rafler (roger.rafler{at}juno.com)
Date: Sat Feb 22 2003 - 15:33:27 EST

I recently spoke with Rebecca Harvey, who lives at the 3000-foot level at
Eagle Rock, Garrett County MD. Her 3-day snowfall totals (for the 3-day
snowstorm) are as follows (Observation Time 0800 Daily):

Saturday 15 Feb: 4 inches
Sunday 16 Feb: 20 inches
Monday 17 Feb: 29 inches

Three-day total = 53 inches.

The only way she gets around is on snowshoes. She had to snowshoe over
the top of the 6-foot "weather fence" which surrounds her
instrumentation. The snow is way up her window, and the Canadian geese
on top of the snow are pecking on the top window sash, causing her dogs
indoors to bark at the geese!

With the recent settling of the snow and today's rains, only today is the
top of her 4WD pickup truck beginning to appear above the snow line!

She had been a long-standing weather observer for the U.S. Forest Service
(before they went to automated instruments). She still sends in her
report once a month, to ACON.
