No need to take this information "with a grain of salt". The data noted here IS accurate, as my personal pictures and observations indicate, along with many other photos. MANY folks in Garrett Couty will confirm these amounts. The coop observor in Garrett Couty for the NWS did report "only" 27 inches, but virtually everyone here is discounting her measurements as being too low by a good foot. She reported 2.4" melted and only 27" snowfall, with temps. around 10 degrees or less throughout the storm. I find it puzzeling that there seems to be scepticism about the amount of snow that fell in Garrett County. Nearby areas in the Laurel Mountains of PA (Seven Springs Ski Resort) and even spots in the panhandle of WV (Berkley Springs, which is MUCH lower in elevation) reported similar accumulations. Does 35-45", even 50" seem unreasonable, given the amount or precep recorded with such cold temps??? I don't think so.
