Hey everyone! Greetings from snowy suburbs of Washington DC. I
live in Silver Spring which is a northern close in suburb of DC. The
snow started fri night as freezing rain and snow, we got a nice glaze
of ice with 2-3 inches out of the first little storm. Then about 2am
sunday morning, it started again....it stopped this morning at 10am
with a grand total of 27 inches, some spots have 34 inches in my
lawn. What is amazing is the rates of snow. From 2am to 12 noon on
Sunday we got 12 inches, then just 4 hrs later, we had 18, and t hen
by midnight last night, we had 25. Thats on the average over 1 inch
of snow per hour. Its now 230pm, and our street is yet to be
plowed, all of our cars have snow above their windows, and thats
BEFORE the plows, plow us back in. The winds havent really been bad,
a bit breezy. It was bloowing the snow around laast night, but the
snow has settled and hardened, so theres not much blowing anymore. \
This storm has dropped the most amount of snow of any storm in my
life time. It tops the 1996 storm as one-storm totals. If people
remember, we had a clipper come through the day after and drop 5-6
more inches, and then 5 more later in the week, so we perhaps had
more on the ground. But in terms of one-storm totals, this beats
all. According to my parents the storm of '79 & '83 were pretty
rough. Anyways, well, its been a weekend to remember! take care!
