Here is why snow is a four letter word: 23" fell here in
Hamilton/Mercerville NJ in the last 24 hours. The state of NJ is
closed. Emergency travel only is allowed. Unfortunately, I run a sewage
treatment plant and am considered essential personnel. I took a 4x4 truck
home from work yesterday to make sure I could get in today. I barely made
it. I got stuck no less than 4 times on the way in. The truck is about 5
feet high to the top of the hood, and the snow was over that height many
times on the secondary roads. Nothing was plowed (or looked like it) until
I hit the Interstate. There I could run at about 30 MPH without fear of a
problem. I know some parts of the country and world would be laughing at
this, but please understand that this much snow just doesn't happen often
around here and people are just not used to it.

Anyway, the snow/sleet stopped about an hour ago, but it looks like the
wrap-around portion of the storm is kicking in about now with <1/4mile
visibility again and moderate to heavy snow falling. The forecast is for
as much as two to four more inches.

My snow blower is resting now after slicing through some drifts that were
over the handle bars. I think it will be laughing if we go out again to
tackle only four inches :-)
