"A CORUNA, Spain - Gusting winds and surging seas spread oil slicks to this
major port city as fishermen toiled in the dark to set up protective booms
and meteorologists forecast more damaging storms for a region mired in sludge.
The coastal weather was so stormy Wednesday that oil-skimming boats
remained in port for a second straight day. Winds reached 110 kilometers
per hour (67 miles per hour), pushing oil slicks toward the coast. Waves of
five meters (17 feet) rolled ashore, kicking up clouds of foam riddled with
oily black patches. And the forecast is bad. The national weather service
said the same conditions blamed for bringing much oil ashore on Thursday
will continue for at least another day."
