The Saturday night thru Monday am tornado outbreak was the deadliest
ever for November, reported by NBC Nightly News tonight.
As of Tuesday afternoon, 3 dozen had died. The NWS estimates at least 65
tornados dropped from the sky.
At http://kamala.cod.edu/svr/ I counted over 400 warnings in the 24
hours ending about 3:30am Monday. At times, 1 of every 2 warnings were
for tornados.

I am generally not on the internet Saturdays, and was not aware of how
serious the weather might be Sat night into Monday am.
When i did get on Sun about 3am, i e-mailed by sister, Karen, who lives
north of Atlanta. When i got up just before 1pm Sunday, a series of
tornadic thunderstorms approaching where my brother lives north of
Indianapolis. I called him, & he was unaware of the weather situation.
The line was transforming single cells to a squall line, and
fortunately, there were no tornados near his home.
No sooner than I finished the phone call w/ my brother in IN, i got a
call from Karen. I informed her the threat would be overnight.
Later, I got on the internet about 12:30am Mon to watch storms in AL &
very nw GA. About 1:30am, i watched a cell on move across north &
central Cherokee Co, about 15 miles north of where Karen lives. The NWS
warning stated it had 70 mph winds. It was moving east & not a threat to
her. {She later told me the county emergency managers sounded the
tornado sirens for that cell (severe t-storm warning) She got up,
looked at the tv, & went to bed.}
Another cell grew quickly near Cedartown (Polk Co) GA. It had strong
signs of rotation, & it was headed staight for Karen's hometown. I was
listening to WSB radio, watching for severe warning from the NWS, & the
radar. The tornado warning for her county was issued at 2:23am.
I called her, and she said the sirens were going off again. She been
awakened a from her "nap". I told her it was "the real thing".
With no basement, the three of them waited in the hall for almost an
hour. I was about to give an all clear, when the NWS issues an update:
Doppler showed a tornado just 2 miles away (2:38am). Because of the time
lag, the message went out after the rotation passed.
Then a second rotation moved from Cobb Co and brushed very southern
Cherokee Co. By 3:15am, the worst had cleared the area & the NWS gave
the all clear.
My sister said that marble size hail fell at her house. She also stated
the winds sounded different. She said that most people were walking
around like zombies Monday. Many spent the night in basements, closets,
& hallways.
LSR's stated there were widespread tree damage. There was a report of
3/4" hail near
my sister's house.
A squall line raced east thru my area at 4am Monday, w/ 1/2" rain
amounts in 1 hour common. I measured .38" total, w/ little wind.
As another cell moved from central VA toward the northeast, it showed
signs of rotation. The NWS out of Sterling (Baltimore/ Washington)
issued a total of 6 severe thunderstorm warnings (SVR) and 3 tornado
(TOR) warnings early Monday.
Wakefield (se VA) issued 1 TOR and 8 SVR (1 Tue am).
Blacksburg (Ronoake) issued 0 TOR and 12 SVR.
There was only scattered reports of damage, mostly felled trees. One
tree landed into a house converted into apartments. in Montgomery Co MD.
It damaged the roof, and prompted building officials to condemn the
building.
