"Bone-chilling cold air continues to ooze south and eastward from an
arctic
high pressure area over the northern Plains. Under this high is where
the
coldest air is located. Temperatures Thursday will only squeak into the
teens
and 20s over much of an area from Montana and Wyoming into North
Dakota, with 20s and 30s common from northern Colorado northeastward to
the northern Great Lakes region, as well as for Idaho and interior
portions of
Washington and Oregon. This is, in many cases, 20-40 degrees below
normal for this time of year!

For example, the bats will be shivering in Belfry,
Mont., as temperatures only reach the upper teens rather then the normal
near 50, as will the demons in Devil's Lake, N.D., where there will be a
high
temperature of about 26 degrees Thursday; their normal high for this
time of
year is 44.

Records lows broken in the Northwest (old/new)...
